CHAUVET DJ IS SUPERCALIFRAGILISTICEXPIALIDOCIOUS!

A spoonful of sugar and amazing lighting are making a production of the beloved Disney musical Mary Poppins fly high. CHAUVET DJ Intimidator products are adding lighting magic to the magical show currently on stage at Pembroke Pines Theatre of the Performing Arts (PPTOPA). The theatre recently installed 4 Intimidator Spot LED 350 moving heads and four Intimidator Spot LED 150s to add to the theater’s existing lighting system in preparation for the beloved and effect-heavy musical. The company also uses CHAUVET D-Fi Hub units to be able to wirelessly control the Intimidators that are mounted high above the stage and control booth.

“Mary Poppins 1Mary Poppins is a show with a ton of effects,” says the show’s Technical Director Elliott Riches. “We knew we had to add some powerful and flexible lighting to our existing rig. The Intimidators really add some visual punch and effects to help tell this story. I’ve been a fan of the Intimidators for quite a while and they really added that magic touch we needed for this show that’s full of magic! We’re looking forward to using them on our other upcoming shows too.”

Riches mounted the Intimidator Spot LED 350s overhead along the front-of-house catwalk. The powerful and versatile 350s allow Riches to add bright effects, gobos and spots to the theatre’s existing wash lighting fixtures from this position. He uses a D-Fi Hub to communicate wireless DMX control to the first Intimidator with the others in the chain connected to it via conventional DMX cables. The smaller Intimidator Spot LED 150s are mounted above the stage just behind the proscenium and are also controlled via D-Fi Hub. The 150s are perfect for shorter throws and tighter beam effects targeted to accent various action positions from directly overhead.

Mary Poppins (4)CHAUVET DJ Senior Product Manager, Allan Reiss is happy to see the Intimidators being used in theatrical applications. “PPTOPA is a great example of a company using our fixtures for things beyond DJ and band lighting,” says Reiss. “These are bright, powerful and flexible fixtures that are great for performing arts applications of all sizes and budgets. It’s great that more and more organizations are discovering that.”

Mary Poppins runs Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Saturdays and Sundays at 2p through August 9th. To learn more about PPTOPA visit www.pptopa.com.

#ChauvetDJ Introduces Twin Compact Barrel And Scanner Effects With Bright 60W LED Source, Prism, Gobos, Optional Remote & More

Barrels (And Scanners!) Of Fun
CHAUVET DJ Introduces Twin Compact Barrel And Scanner Effects With Bright 60W LED Source, Prism, Gobos, Optional Remote & More

Good things come in small . . . . barrels. That’s what DJs, mobile entertainers and dance clubs will be saying about CHAUVET DJ’s new Intimidator Barrel 305 IRC barrel-type scanning effect and its scanner twin, the Intimidator Scan 305 IRC, which weigh just 10.4 and 10 pounds ( 4.8 and 4.6 kg) respectively, but can roll out a bushel load of punchy effects.

Each of these compact scanners produces a bright, powerful beam that can shine through any environment, thanks to their mighty 60W LED source. The beam can be split to cover larger areas, using the fixtures’ built-in 3-facet prism, just one of many standout features found on the Intimidator Barrel 305 IRC and Intimidator Scan 305 IRC. Both units are also equipped with 7 interchangeable rotating gobos (5 metal + 2 glass), plus a palette of 8 brilliant colors + white, with the ability to produce split colors. The gobos and colors can scroll continuously at varying speeds, and there’s also a variable strobe (0-35Hz) – for a non-stop thrill ride of dazzling effects.

Incorporating all these features into a professional-looking lightshow is remarkably easy too, even for those with no programming experience. That’s because both fixtures offer exciting advanced built-in movement macros and move-in-black Auto Programs, which can easily be called up manually or with CHAUVET DJ’s optional IRC-6 remote controller (sold separately) to produce a ready-made cutting-edge lightshow. With the handheld IRC-6 remote, users can trigger Auto and Sound Active modes and other basic functions wirelessly from distances up to 30 feet (9M). For those who wish to customize their show, the Intimidator Barrel 305 IRC and Intimidator Scan 305 IRC can also be programmed via DMX; both fixtures offer 3-pin XLR connectors and two DMX profile options, 7- or 11-channel.

“Scanners are one of the most exciting lighting effects because of their breathtakingly fast speed and darting movement. The Intimidator Barrel 305 IRC and Intimidator Scan 305 IRC are perfect for dance clubs or anywhere else a very intense, high-energy lightshow is desired,” said Allan Reiss, Senior Product Manager for CHAUVET DJ. “The two fixtures go beyond other compact scanners in their class, in terms of their power and brightness and the rich feature set they offer. For example, having a built-in prism effect not only adds excitement, it also gives you more options by allowing you to split the beam and cover a larger area.”

If the area or room is extremely large, multiple units (up to 4) can be linked together to create super-sized synchronized lightshows. Not only can like models be linked, but the Intimidator Barrel 305 IRC and Intimidator Scan 305 IRC will also work with each other in Master/Slave mode, providing the option of having different-shaped beams moving in sync with one another.

Intimidator Scan 305 IRC - FRONTThe Intimidator Scan 305 IRC produces a powerful 15° beam, emitting an illuminance of 9,110 lux at 2 meters, with a pan/tilt movement of 180°/90°.

Intimidator Barrel 305 IRC - FRONTThe Intimidator Barrel 305 IRC also pans 180° and is capable of continuous 360° tilt motion with a beam angle of 12° and an illuminance of 1,630 lux at 2 meters.

Both fixtures feature high-frequency LED dimming for flicker-free operation, making them ideal for video applications. The scanners can be power linked up to 5 units at 120V ad 10 units at 230V, saving the time required to run cables and extension cords. Each model will fit into CHAUVET DJ’s CHS-40 VIP Gear Bag for safe, convenient storage and transport.

CHAUVET DJ’s Intimidator Wave 360 IRC Creates Amazing Narrow-Beam Lightshow From 4 LED Moving Heads On Rotating Base #chauvetdj

Aerial Array
CHAUVET DJ’s Intimidator Wave 360 IRC Creates Amazing Narrow-Beam Lightshow From 4 LED Moving Heads On Rotating Base

With its stunning, moving, razor-sharp beams shooting upward into the air, the new Intimidator Wave 360 IRC will make waves at any event. This unique array fixture from CHAUVET DJ features four tilting RGBW heads mounted on a single rotating base to produce a breathtaking non-stop visual ride that is unlike any other aerial effect.

IntimWave360IRC-FRONTEach of the Intimidator Wave 360 IRC’s heads is powered by a 12-watt Quad-Color (red, green, blue, white) LED with a narrow 5° beam angle, creating intensely bright, tightly focused aerial beams. Each of the four tilting heads is also independently controllable which, combined with the continuous pan rotation of the base, propels the array’s sharp, colorful beams to constantly move around the room, cutting through the air like knives, for an astonishing aerial lightshow that truly stands out from the pack.

Both the pan and tilt angles on the Intimidator Wave 360 IRC are fully adjustable (pan 540°, 360° or 180°; tilt 270°, 180° or 90°). This adjustability offers the advantage of allowing the effects to be directed within a desired area to accommodate rooms and spaces of varying sizes.

Users also have the flexibility to create an infinite spectrum of beam colors with the Intimidator Wave 360 IRC’s 4-in-1 RGBW LEDs. Selection of beam colors can be done via a DMX controller, with the unit offering the options of either 17 or 33 DMX channel operation

IntimWave360-043For those who prefer not to use DMX, the Intimidator Wave 360 IRC makes it easy to put on a dramatic aerial lightshow manually. The array is equipped with built-in movement macros and color programs that can create complex looks without requiring any knowledge of DMX. An easy-to-use full-color menu interface makes manual operation simple and self-explanatory.
As another easy control option, the Intimidator Wave 360 IRC can be operated wirelessly using the CHAUVET DJ IRC-6 infrared remote controller (sold separately). The convenient IRC-6 gives users instant command of features like built-in programs and color mixing options from distances up to 30 feet.

The Intimidator Wave 360 IRC is ideal for DJs, bands, mobile entertainers and event producers who want to astound audiences with a bombardment of shooting aerial beam effects. “Narrow-beam aerial effects are very popular today,” said Allan Reiss, Senior Product Manager for CHAUVET DJ. “The Intimidator Wave 360 IRC brings a new twist to this trend by combining four tilting heads with a base that itself rotates. What you get is an aerial effect that looks like a Fourth of July fireworks display in constant motion, yet it’s all coming from a single unit. You really have to see this very unique effect in action, and when you do, you’ll be amazed.”

More sweeping, large coverage lightshows can be created by linking together multiple Intimidator Wave 360 IRC fixtures. Up to four units can be linked in automatic, sound-active or Master-Slave mode – for a spectacular aerial display of 16 moving heads in all!

The Intimidator Wave 360 IRC features a variable strobe (0 to 20 Hz), includes 3-pin DMX connectors, and has a bright output of 16,670 lux at 2 meters. Surprisingly lightweight and compact for the wide-ranging scope of its effects, the entire 4-head array weighs just 19.4 pounds (8.8 kg) and measures 22 x 7.4 x 11.7 inches (559 x 189 x 297 mm) for easy portability and setup at any venue.

CHAUVET DJ Stars At Toronto’s Cinema #chauvetdj #libertyvillage

The red hot Cinema club in Toronto’s hip Liberty Village isn’t located in a former movie theater. Instead, its creators chose the name because they wanted a club that exposed visitors to evocative visual scenes that “could only be brought to life on the big screen.” A good example of this design vision can be seen on the ceiling over Cinema’s second story dance floor, a unique metallic looking structure that houses 16 Intimidator Beam LED 350 moving heads from CHAUVET® DJ.

The dance floor ceiling resembles what LD Michael Meacham of iDesign (Miami), describes as “a low res VersaTube,” referring to the well-known metal building structures. A VersaTube look at an upscale, trendy nightclub? Yes indeed! Meacham dramatizes this surprising, power-packed visual image in his lighting design, much to the delight of the club’s owners and patrons.

Chauvet DJ At Liberty Village

Chauvet DJ At Liberty Village

“There are white aluminum bars across a rather low ceiling,” explained the LD, whose lighting designs are in some of the world’s most recognizable clubs. “I wanted to use this architectural feature to my advantage as lighting designer to create a very original, unexpected and transformative look over the dance floor, in keeping with the out-of-the-ordinary spirit of Cinema.”

To do this, Meacham placed color bars along the struts of the ceiling and pixel strobes in the corners. Then he anchored the design with 16 Intimidators, positioned in four in groups of four across ceiling. “We use the Intimidators to roll beams over the dance floor and the area around it,” he explained. “The beams are programmed in different zones to create some excellent dimming and scrolling patters, which results in a very deep captivating look.”

A 75-watt LED moving head, the Intimidator Beam LED 350 features a motorized focus, rotating gobos, and a three-faced rotating prism, which together with the fixture’s high output make it ideal for casting crisp impactful images over large areas like the Cinema dance floor.

“The Intimidators perform extremely well in the scrolling design we have at Cinema,” said Meacham. “As LED fixtures, they don’t consume a lot of power, but they have the output we want in a dance floor environment where there are other lights and all these different things going on. We used a lot of intense displays at this club, so the Intimidators had to give us very sharp beams; and that’s exactly what they delivered.”

Interestingly, when Cinema opened in 2012, the club owners found that the original lighting design for the second story dance floor didn’t measure up to the transformative look that characterized other areas of the club – so they called in Meacham to work his magic.

“The original lighting design relied on static pars, so there was no element of surprise; and there was no real movement or excitement,” said Meacham. “We created a more dynamic design with the help of products like the Intimidator and as a result have taken the dance floor to a new place visually, which is really the philosophy behind this entire club design. So everyone involved is very happy with how this turned out.”
